Reimbursement

Find out whether your therapy can be reimbursed in part, and how the Dutch system works. Asking takes a few minutes.

This page is about the Dutch system. The care offered by De Rave Psychologie is not covered by the Dutch basic health insurance (basisverzekering). The practice is independent and has no contracts with insurers. That does not automatically mean you pay everything yourself: partial reimbursement is sometimes possible.

Two routes come up most often. The first is part of the cost through your supplementary insurance (aanvullende verzekering), since many Dutch supplementary packages cover psychosocial care by an independent psychologist. The second is support from your employer: Dutch employers often have a training, vitality or sustainable-employability budget. Below you will find, per route, how to ask the question, including a ready-made email you can copy and send.

Insured outside the Netherlands, or through an international or expat plan? Ask that insurer whether online psychosocial care from a Dutch NIP-registered psychologist is covered. Use the email below as a starting point, leaving out the sentences about Dutch basic and supplementary insurance. If you are not sure where you stand, Ylonka is happy to think it through with you during the free intro call.

Route 1

Your health insurer

Many supplementary policies cover part of psychosocial care from an independent psychologist. Whether yours does, and for how much, varies from insurer to insurer, and from year to year. The most reliable way to find out: ask your own insurer directly. Copy the email below, fill in your policy number and send it. You can write to the customer service team of a Dutch insurer in English, though the reply may come back in Dutch. The Dutch version of this page carries the same email in Dutch.

Question about reimbursement for psychosocial care

Dear Sir or Madam, I am considering therapy at De Rave Psychologie, an independent practice for psychosocial care (a NIP-registered psychologist, AGB zorgverlener 94117510, AGB praktijk 94068644). This care is not covered by the Dutch basic health insurance (basisverzekering). My question: is a session of psychosocial care with an independent, non-contracted NIP-registered psychologist covered by my supplementary insurance (aanvullende verzekering), and if so, what share and up to what maximum per year? My policy number is: [fill in]. Thank you in advance for your reply. Kind regards, [your name]

Route 2

Your employer

More and more Dutch employers invest in the mental health and employability of their staff, for example through a training, vitality or sustainable-employability budget (duurzame inzetbaarheid). So it can be worth asking. Use the email below as a starting point for the conversation with your manager or HR.

Request for support with psychological guidance

Dear [manager/HR], I would like to start therapy with a psychologist (De Rave Psychologie) to work on my mental health and my ability to keep doing my job well. This care is not covered by the Dutch basic health insurance (basisverzekering). I was wondering whether [employer] could support this in full or in part, for example through the training, vitality or sustainable-employability budget. Investing in mental health benefits my work as well. I would be glad to hear whether this is possible and what steps it would take. Kind regards, [your name]
